RetroRealms Social Media Policy
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all communication related to RetroRealms on social media platforms is consistent, respectful, and aligned with the server’s values. This policy applies to all staff members and players who may represent or mention the server on public platforms.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all official server social media accounts (e.g., Twitter, Discord, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) as well as any social media posts or interactions made by server staff members, volunteers, or players that mention the server or its community.
3. Staff Responsibilities on Social Media
Representing the Server: Staff members are expected to represent the server in a professional and respectful manner at all times. Anything posted or shared online can impact the server’s reputation and community.
Official Server Accounts: Only designated staff members (e.g., server owners, admins, or social media managers) are allowed to post on official server social media accounts. These accounts should be used to share important announcements, updates, events, and community news.
Personal Accounts: When using personal accounts, staff should be aware of their role in the community and how their posts or interactions may reflect on the server. Staff members should avoid publicly criticizing or causing drama related to the server on personal accounts.
Clear Identification: When posting on official server accounts, staff should ensure it’s clear that the post is from the server itself. If staff are posting about the server on their personal accounts, they should clarify that they are doing so as an individual, not as a representative of the server (unless they are specifically authorized to speak on behalf of the server).
4. Player Guidelines for Social Media
Respectful Behavior: Players should be respectful when talking about the server or community on social media. This includes not engaging in bullying, hate speech, or negative behavior.
Official Accounts: Players should direct questions or concerns regarding the server to the appropriate official channels, such as the server’s Discord, website, or designated social media platforms. Official updates should only come from the server’s official accounts.
No Impersonation: Players should not impersonate the server, staff members, or any official account of the server on social media. This includes creating fake accounts or making misleading posts that could confuse others into thinking they are official.
Sharing Content: Players are encouraged to share their experiences (e.g., screenshots, fan art, or gameplay clips) on social media, but they should ensure that it aligns with the server’s rules and community guidelines. Players should avoid posting offensive, inappropriate, or harmful content.
5. Behavior and Conduct on Social Media
Respect and Kindness: Staff and players should treat others with kindness and respect, both within the game and on social media platforms. Disrespectful, hateful, or discriminatory posts or interactions will not be tolerated.
Constructive Feedback: When offering feedback about the server on social media, players and staff should focus on constructive criticism rather than venting frustration or airing grievances. Negative comments should be addressed privately or through official support channels.
Conflict Resolution: If issues or conflicts arise on social media, staff members should de-escalate the situation by directing individuals to official support channels (e.g., Discord, private messages, or in-game communication) to handle the matter privately.
Privacy: Respect the privacy of others. Do not share private information (e.g., real names, personal addresses, etc.) about staff, players, or the server without consent. This includes screenshots or messages from private conversations.
6. Content Guidelines
Server Promotions: Official promotions for the server (such as events, competitions, or updates) should be shared consistently and across relevant platforms. These posts should be clear, engaging, and informative.
Media Sharing: When sharing media (images, videos, or fan content), ensure that the content is appropriate, safe for all audiences, and aligns with the server’s values. Avoid sharing any material that could be seen as offensive or inappropriate.
Server Events and Updates: Staff should regularly post about upcoming server events, important updates, or changes that affect the community. These posts should be engaging and informative to ensure players stay informed about server happenings.
7. Use of Hashtags and Tags
Official Hashtags: Use official hashtags (e.g., #RetroRealms, #RetroRealmsGens) when promoting server-related content to help maintain consistency and make it easier for players to find server updates.
Tagging Players and Staff: Only tag players or staff in posts with their consent. Avoid tagging people in posts that may not be relevant to them or that could lead to unwanted attention.
8. Consequences for Violating the Policy
Warnings: Staff or players who violate the social media policy may receive a warning, depending on the severity of the breach. This includes posting inappropriate content, engaging in public drama, or impersonating the server.
Temporary Restrictions: In more severe cases, staff members may be temporarily suspended from managing official social media accounts. Players may have their ability to promote server-related content on social media restricted.
Permanent Ban: Repeated violations or extremely harmful behavior (e.g., cyberbullying, harassment, hate speech) could lead to a permanent ban from the server or its community platforms.
Staff Accountability: Staff members who fail to adhere to the policy may be reassigned, suspended from their duties, or removed from the server staff team, depending on the severity of the infraction.
9. Reporting Violations
Report Mechanism: If staff or players witness inappropriate behavior or content on social media (e.g., harassment, false information about the server, impersonation), they should report it to the server leadership or moderators immediately.
Privacy and Confidentiality: Reports should be handled privately and respectfully. The leadership team will investigate the situation and take appropriate action in accordance with the severity of the violation.
This social media policy is intended to foster a positive and respectful community both on and off the server. Staff and players should remember that their actions on social media reflect not only on themselves but also on the server as a whole. By adhering to these guidelines, we can maintain a supportive and professional atmosphere for everyone.
